I’ve always been a firm believer that the way you start your morning sets the tone for how the rest of your day will be. If you start your morning in a crabby mood, waking up late and rolling out of bed, you aren’t in the mood to see or deal with anyone or anything–that’s already setting you up to have what’s going to feel like one
1. Wake up earlier!
One thing I’ve started doing is setting my alarm for even earlier than I need to wake up for the day. I know I know-getting up earlier than necessary sounds crazy BUT I find that getting up just a bit earlier gives me time to fully transition into an awake and alert state. I also find that not feeling “rushed” to get ready helps me to be in a better mood.
2. Make your bed
This is something that my mom used to say I should do every morning, and for the longest my response was “I’m just going to get back in it, what’s the point of making it!?” lol Now being older I’ve realized, making your bed truly makes you feel like you have your shit together and in order for the day lol. Making your bed is very intentional and shows you are being somewhat productive off the early. It’s probably psychological but I just feel like my day is going better when I do this.
3. Pray & Speak your affirmations for the day
Once I’m awake and have wiped the cold out my eye — I like to set some time aside to simply, Pray. Not only do I like to pray but I like to reflect on how thankful I am to be alive with a roof over my head. Starting the day with a bit of gratitude helps you to appreciate that day more. I also like to speak some affirmations over my life / day whether it be saying it out loud, in my head, or writing it down on paper ( Affirmations listed further below in post). Starting the day this way helps put some pep in your step, and make for a more positive outcome.
4. Do your hygiene routine thoroughly
Another simple one, Wash your face and brush your teeth!! lol. Although common sense to do this– sometimes you may wake up late or groggy (which is why I say wake up earlier) and skip out on touching your face and only brush your teeth (hopefully not vice versa cuz…breath lol). Take a moment to really wipe your eyes, WASH your face making sure to massage your face wash and face creams in and give your skin some TLC and loosen those tight face muscles. Then- BRUSH YO TEETH. Scrub your tongue and spend no less than 2 minutes on those teeth. Taking care of your hygiene is a simple way to make yourself FEEL good. Hence the reason why a lot of people with depression or anxiety tend to have a harder time keeping up with their hygiene– It truly is a form of self love to take care of yourself.
5. Eat Breakfast or Juice
As cliche as it sounds, Breakfast is truly the most important meal of the day. If you don’t want to crash and burn by noon, or be starving and binge like crazy for lunch, then you NEED to have SOMETHING for breakfast. If you don’t want to eat then throw some fruits and veggies in a blender and have a juice or breakfast smoothie. Feeding your brain early in the morning will help you to have some longevity energy wise and get you through your morning.
