These days people are paying more and more attention to the ingredients in the products they’re using and the food that they eat. We now thankfully have the science to back what is healthy for us to consume/use and what is not. However, some people are still unaware that our skin is in fact an organ! Not only is it an organ, but it’s our LARGEST organ! What that means is, whatever we put on top of our skin is essentially getting absorbed into our bloodstream. When I first learned this I got a bit freaked out. I immediately thought about all the lotions, soaps etc that I had been putting on my skin for YEARS and what that could possibly have done to my body.
There are certain chemicals found in products that are referred to as “Endocrine disruptors”. For starters, your Endocrine system are the glands that regulate your hormones, metabolism, reproduction, sleep, mood, etc etc. Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that are known to have a negative affect on these glands, thereby messing with your bodies ability to function healthily. Not only do a lot of skin products contain Endocrine disruptors but they can also have other harmful ingredients that also contribute to health issues like Parabens which are linked to Cancer. I know, it’s crazy to think about how your beloved Ginger bread cookie Bath and Body works lotions and soaps or even your make up could be the reason for your hormone and other health issues!
Needless to say, when I learned all this I immediately wanted no parts in using any of these chemicals on my face or body. This is what lead to my discovery of “Green Beauty“. By definition, Green beauty is a movement which encompasses a mindful effort of beauty and wellness brands to source the purest, most sustainable ingredients possible, in order to create efficacious and safe products. It is also considered a lifestyle where one makes a conscious choice to avoid products proven to be harmful to the health of our planet and its inhabitants. I definitely don’t want to get Cancer or have my hormones messed with and I also don’t want to hurt the planet so for me this path was looking like a double win.
Luckily these days there is an abundance of beauty brands that carry “Green” beauty products specifically! From the foundation you wear to the lotion you put on your body there is a Green Beauty product for it all!
Down below is a list I’ve made of some specific brands I love and use that are considered “Green Beauty”. If you have a favorite Green Beauty brand comment below with the name so we can all get in on that 🙂
